Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Communion Sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation (also called Confession or Penance) and First Communion normally takes place in the second grade for children baptized in the Catholic Faith. Essential for the preparation of First Communion is regular worship in Sunday Mass, enrolled for at least a year and regular participation in religious education, and a commitment on the part of the parents to the religious education of their children after the first reception of Communion.
First Reconciliation is celebrated in the winter/spring. First Communion is celebrated in May. Sacramental preparation classes meet on Tuesday evenings from
7-8pm in Cleary Hall. One or both parents are expected to attend class with their child.
Older children (in grades 3 or higher) or children who are not currently enrolled in religious education classes are prepared with instruction appropriate to the needs of the child with the involvement of the parents. If your child has missed some or all grades, there is a place for your child to begin sacramental preparation. You may contact Lacy Park or Sr. Doreen Glynn in the parish office for more information on this process.
Preparation for Confirmation
Confirmation welcomes us as a sacrament of initiation. It also strengthens us for discipleship, mission and witness to our faith. Candidates should be the appropriate age to receive this sacrament and demonstrate an understanding and willingness to focus on the importance of the sacrament.
The Confirmation celebration is held in the fall/early winter and celebrated with our cluster (All Saints & St. Anthony). Preparation is 5-6 weeks in length.
Lacy Park is the instructor for all sacramental preparation classes. Please contact her for more information.
