When
we pray the Stations or Way of the Cross, we are reminded
of how much Jesus suffered
to prove his love for us. We enter his grief,
sufferings, fear, compassion and pain as a human
person, but also into our own.
Christ's sorrows include the experience of every
human person. His way of transforming suffering
by love shows us step by step how that plan
of love can be carried out by us today.
Death and love are experiences common to us all.
None of us can escape them. Every human
life is on the road to death, and everyone is
capable of love. The price of love is suffering.
But Jesus teaches us that the power of love
can transform suffering and death.
Each one of us meets himself or herself on the way of the
cross. In them, we see Christ's story,
our own story and the story of the suffering world.
Christ's sufferings continue in people throughout
all time and lead beyond the dark sleep of
death in a tomb to resurrection and everlasting
springtime of life.
